Happy 5th Anniversary

This last Saturday was our fifth wedding anniversary. I cannot believe it has already been five years. Around home that seems like nothing. All of our friends are coming up on five years or have already passed it. However, of my college friends, I'm one of the few that's married and the only with kids! Two kids. That seems so mature. Five years ago when I looked at the people who were 27 and had two kids that sure did seem old to me.
When we were leaving for Quincy this weekend (we stayed at a hotel with the kids to celebrate our anniversary), Michael asked me if I would drink Mt. Dew. I just remember thinking, after five years you don't know what kind of soda I like...and then I think about all the things I don't know about him and not because we don't take the time to get to know each other, but because we have both changed so much. Cheesecake used to be his favorite. I made him one for Valentine's Day and it's still sitting in the fridge untouched. I often think about college and when we were first married and about the things that were important then and realize that even though that stuff seems silly now, at the time it was important. I wonder what will be important to me five years from now and if the person I am today will seem silly to me then...

Okay, now that I'm done being philosophical, I'll tell about my kids this weekend. Somer was a swimming monster. From the minute we got to the hotel she was asking, can we go swimming yet??? I was glad to see that she did gain a little fear of the water (although not enough). Last summer we had to make her wear a life jacket because she would just cannon ball off the side whether someone was there to catch her or not. This weekend she was a little more leery. She would at least wait for you to be standing there before she jumped (whether you were ready or not!). This was also Hudson's first swimming experience and I think he liked it. I'm not sure what he was thinking most of the time, but he seemed to be enjoying himself. No pictures this time, but I'll get some new ones soon.

Get me in there!

Everytime Somer gets in the bath Hudson hears her splashing and crawls as fast as he can to get in there. These pictures are from a couple days ago. Last night he was trying to get in with Somer and had himself pushed up with his hands and feet on the ground and his entire body pushed up in the air. I couldn't get a picture but it was really cute and I can't believe the little buger has gotten so strong!

Helping Mommy with the Laundry

As I was getting ready to go to Columbia Monday morning, Somer and Hudson decided to help me with the laundry. I found them in the kitchen with the tub emptied onto the floor. Somer was in the tub and Hudson was in the laundry. It was so enjoyable watching them play that I just sat and watched them for probably 15 minutes.

Pulling Up and Out!

Hudson is starting to pull up. He started by crawling over pillows or other obstacles on the floor, then he started crawling up in your lap if you are seated in the floor. Now he can pull up to a standing position if he can grab onto something that is just the right height like his Grams was in these pictures. He then figured out he could pull her hair. It won't be long before we'll be pulling our own hair out trying to keep him out of stuff!

Just a Trim, Please

Michael hired a tree trimmer to "trim" our trees. I guess sometimes getting more than you pay for isn't a good thing. All Michael said was "they'll grow back". Yeah, maybe for the next owners!

Somer goes Sledding

Grams and Papa gave Somer a sled for Christmas so Megan, Josh and Michael took her on Christmas Day and she loved it! A couple weeks later we woke up to a very light shower of snow and Somer ran into the bed room and jumped on Michael shouting "Daddy, it's snowing, we can go sledding!" She was very disappointed to learn that we can't sled in 1/4 of snow. I don't really want more bad weather but it really would be nice to see her excited face one more time this year!
Christmas was awesome this year. We went to five different celebrations and still have one to go in February. Somer really got into the "presents" part of it and Hudson really liked playing with the paper. The pictures are from mostly Christmas day with a few from Michael's grandparents the weekend after. I didn't get any of the kids dressed up on Christmas Eve because Somer threw up all over her dress at church so her and I had to stay home the rest of the night. Other than all of us having the flu that week, we had a really great holiday season.

Somer got lots of spoiled this year!
